Innovation is a core part of Europe’s competitiveness and as such it is recognised in the EU’s industrial strategy. The EU has a range of programmes to drive innovation, such as Horizon Europe 2021-2027. The EU institutions reached a political agreement on Horizon Europe on 11 December 2020. The first Horizon Europe Strategic Plan (2021-2024) is expected to be adopted in February 2021, the first work programmes published by April 2021. Then there is also the Digital Europe Programme.

In this event, we will look at how these various programmes can boost key technologies and solutions underpinning EU policies and sustainable development goals. We will also discuss how the implementation of the updated Industrial Strategy will need to link to these programmes, to enable Europe to further strengthen its position as a global technology leader. We will hear the perspective from industry on what else could be done to foster innovation in Europe, focusing also specifically on the role of advanced manufacturing for Europe’s competitiveness and its link to these innovation programmes.

The interactive virtual debate will bring together representatives of

  • the European Parliament: MEP Maria da Graça Carvalho, EPP
  • the European Commission: Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth
  • the presidency of the Council of the EU: TBC
  • industry: TBC

More details on the timing, agenda and registration will be available soon.
