Innovation to heat our buildings, cut gas consumption and improve EU competitiveness

In the context of uncertainty resulting from the energy crisis and in light of the objectives set out by the Net-Zero Industry Act and REPowerEU, a recent study by Guidehouse looks at Decarbonisation pathways for the EU building sector to identify the right mix of energy and technologies to cuts gas consumption and reach the EU climate neutrality goals in a socially acceptable and economically competitive way.

To ensure the energy and climate transition benefits our economy and society, we need to scale up clean technology manufacturing and preserve European competitiveness on the global scene, considering that the innovative technologies we need to decarbonise our buildings are already being developed in Europe, by European companies, and are brought into our homes through a value chain that accounts for an estimated 1.8 million local jobs.

How can we innovate and preserve European competitiveness? What can we do to equip our workforce with the right skills needed?
